About the event
In this 2 hour, Type Specimen Workshop participants will be introduction to the historic craft of letterpress printing at Montana State University’s own studio. Housing over 400 cases of type MSU has an extensive collection of historical types with three vintage printing presses. In this workshop you will typeset lead type to create a type specimen page and then print on a 1948 Vandercook No4 Printing Press. Participants will take home a copy of their own specimen pages for their keepsake that they will have typeset and printed themselves. This workshop is a hands-on experience, and letterpress printing is a technical trade that takesphysical work, your printed pages will truly be a result of your own time, effort, and hands-on involvement.
